Everything You Should Know About the 2022 iPad Pro
Here is everything you need to know about the 2022 iPad Pro
Apple fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of the 2022 iPad Pro, and it seems like it is almost here! While there have been many rumors about the design, specs, and features of the new iPad Pro, Apple has yet to release any official details.
But there have been serious rumors that this new iPad Pro might be released with the M2 Chip. Here are some of our predictions about what to expect from the 2022 iPad Pro, based on recent rumors and other industry trends we’ve seen in recent years.
The Battery of the 2022 iPad Pro
Let’s start with the battery, since it’s the first thing I look at when deciding to upgrade to a new device or not.
If we look at the current iPad Pro models, they already have a sizable battery for an iOS device — about 11 hours on average —
This upcoming iPad Pro however will most likely come with a bigger battery. It’s unclear if Apple is working on a new version of its M2 chip to power these iPad models, or if it will simply boost current processor sizes to deliver more battery life.
A Design That We Already Are Used To But With Something Extra
The 2022 iPad Pro could feature a glass back to enable wireless charging, most likely via MagSafe. Samsung implemented a similar mechanism for its wireless charging pad, called Fast Charge.
Since Apple already has wireless charging under its belt on the iPhone 12 and 13 Pro models, it’s not a stretch to imagine it could create a larger version of that technology with the iPad.
Bloomberg’s journalist Mark Gurman stated:
Apple added wireless charging to iPhones in 2017 and last year updated it with a magnet-based MagSafe system that ensured more consistent charging speeds. The company is testing a similar MagSafe system for the iPad Pro. Wireless charging will likely be slower than directly plugging in a charger to the iPad’s Thunderbolt port, which will remain as part of the next models.
What About the Screen Sizes?
The screen sizes of these two iPads will remain the same as the 2020 and 2021 models.
So we can expect the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models in this 2022 iPad Pro. Unfortunately, the 11-inch model will most likely keep its LCD panel, just like with the current generation iPad Pro. The 12.9-inch models are expected to come with a mini-LED display.
Why not just slap a mini-LED in the 11-inch model as well, you might be asking yourself.
Well, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the production of the smaller iPad will become much more expensive if Apple chooses to integrate the mini-LED display in the smaller iPad as well.
Are we Finally Getting the M2 Chip?
In the 2022 iPad Pro models, it’s expected that we will see the release of the A11 M2 chip for the iPad. This would be a larger chip with more processing power than what’s currently available on the iPad.
M2 will just like the M1 chip be featuring onboard storage. Which could mean that it’s not just faster, but it should drain less battery power as well.
As for the storage options, there isn’t said much about this topic. So we expect to have the same options as the current iPad Pro model.
When will it be released?
Rumors say that it is possible that we could see the 2022 iPad Pro model around June of this year. Apple has a history of announcing new products in early summer (it announced both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in September 2015), but many people were expecting to see a new iPad release along with the new rumored MacBook Air — the timing would make sense given how long we’ve gone without seeing a refresh.
